Company Profile

Market 25 is owned and operated by three partners: Joe Aiello, Pete Aiello, and Doug Rodrigues. All have history not only with each other, but with the rich agricultural heritage of the fertile Santa Clara Valley. Joe and Doug met in 1953 in their first grade class at Saint Lucy's school in Campbell, CA. Joe and Pete, father and son, together currently own and operate Uesugi Farms, a fruit and vegetable growing operation and Market 25's main supplier.

The Aiellos come from a long line of farmers originating in Sicily. When the family immigrated to the United States at the turn of the 20th century, they settled in upstate New York and grew tomatoes there. Just a few years later, the family moved to San Jose, continuing to grow tomatoes and founding the Contadina cannery. Just as his predecessors did, Joe chose farming for a profession and purchased Uesugi Farms in 1979. He oversaw the growth and prosperity of this blooming business, year after year. Pete grew up working in the fields, coolers, and packing sheds and now runs the company alongside his dad.

Doug Rodrigues also grew up in a farming family. Doug's grandparents, the Rodrigues and Pereira families, emigrated from the Portuguese islands of Madeira and Pico, respectively, at the turn of the 20th century. The Pereira's grew apricots and wine grapes in the east foothills of San Jose. The Rodrigueses grew pears, prunes, cherries, and of course strawberries in Santa Clara Valley. A third-generation grower, Doug still lives on his family's farmland in Saratoga. Doug has shepherded a steadily growing business and discerning clientele, providing high-quality Uesugi strawberries, produce, and excellent service to his many customers in the Saratoga area.

With their extensive knowledge of growing and marketing produce, the three men came up with an idea of building and operating a community market, where its customers could always find a broad range of local, fresh, high-quality produce at any time during the local growing season. Coupling Uesugi's products with those of other local farmers, the partners wanted to provide the same great produce and customer service that Doug's customers have become familiar with in Saratoga.

So, after several years of planning, design and hard work, Market 25 was constructed and opened in July of 2013. The three partners have delivered on their vision of providing excellent produce and excellent service. Today, the residents of the South County and the many travelers in the area have had the pleasure of stopping by and enjoying the fresh and delicious products that Market 25 provides. We invite you to do the same.

See you at the market!
